Hi Everyone!

Shannon and I just got back tonight from visiting Ashley/Brandon and
Talmage. We blessed him this morning at Coppell 1st Ward. It was
really a great experience. John and Machel Rietz, Don and Susan Peay
and their family were there for the event. We flew down Friday night,
drove from one side of Dallas to the other on Saturday(see pictures of
Dallas temple), then ate barbecue until we couldn't stand up. Brandon's
25th birthday was yesterday so that's why we had to eat so much. It was
really fun to visit Brandon/Ashley's apartment and see where they live.
Beautiful weather and surroundings. Tonight, we got back and all was
well with the kids. Thanks to Nikki and Will for stopping by to help.

Peter's Week

All in all, a good week! Things at work are still up in the air but I have accumulated a lot of "tribal knowledge" about how our solutions work and who is doing what so that is valuable to some in charge and keeping me in the game for now.  It feels good to be useful as new decisions are being made.  We still don't have a solid direction yet but hopefully there will be meetings to pull that together in the next few days.  I've been able to feel some progress so that's good.

A couple of highlights of the week.  Thursday, I went with Virginia to Cami's concert (see footage below).  Then Friday was here 18th birthday bash where she hosted a fun time for all her friends and family.  Josh and Joe came and all had a good time.  Then Saturday, Dan and I had a "play day" which turned out to be a very welcome relief!  I had talked to Dan early in the morning and he said that he wanted to go snowmobiling but couldn't find anyone to go with him so we took the red Phasers up Farmington Canyon and had a grand time.  At the very top of the hill is the radar towers for aircraft control which we rode to, took some shots and sat and talked about the recession in the sun.  Going down we found these valleys that you could speed all they way up one side and then down through the bottom and up the others.  Pretty fun.  Dan also found a pond that had a big snow machine magnet in it.  He didn't land the sled in the hole but he was in the drink.  I scrambled to help him but when I found it wasn't over his head, paused to record the moment for history!  We then headed down and I rode one of his new ski-sleds for a while.  We had a dinner platter lunch at Apollo Burger then went to the hanger and looked at the Mooney.... it's on jacks and looks kind of cool suspended there in the air.  Frank and I had were talking about the applied psychology of design--those Mooney's just make you want to fly.  All I have to do is look at it and it makes me happy! From there, we went over to the BMW motorcycle place and sat on all of the cycles that are designed to go cross continent in all kinds of conditions.  I think we settled on the GS 1200 Rs with the lower seats--only about $19,000.  We told the salesman, "We're just looking." To which he replied, "You gotta start somewhere!"  Then we headed back to play on the Play Station - my first attempt at any gaming in the last 15 years! Pretty fun with auto racing, plane flying and then snowboarding--all so realistic! I finished off the day at Frank & Melissa's where Andrew let me get him ready for bed and Gavin and Sophie each read me a book.  Very fun to spend time in their lovely home! Saturday was a great day. 

As I write, Jessica and Clayton are over at his relatives showing pictures and talking.  They are spending quite a bit of time together and it seems like they both are enjoying that.  We're hoping for whatever makes them happy!  Clay will be here for another 10 days and then heads back to Iraq for three months.  He's been patrolling an area of Bagdad called Sadir City which has 2 million people in an area about the size of Bench! They go door to door, asking for referrals (intelligence on bad guys) and questioning people. He said it's like missionary work but without any spiritual experiences.  Glad he's home safe and great to have him here. 

Well, that's about it.  Time (hopefully) for a Sunday nap and getting rested for another week of adventure!  Love you all!

Cambria's 18th Birthday Party

Who's that skinny little kid playing basketball? Haha our team is kind of an embarrassment but I still have fun. Speaking of being skinny (or the contrary)...I've been eating way more than I should here. We are fed 3 all-you-can-eat meals a day, so it's hard not to stuff yourself at every meal. Don't worry, I've been cutting back lately, and I may actually come back skinnier than when I left, just because the food is so gross. I've gotten a slight case of food poisoning TWICE now, so my food intake has been significantly reduced (and is more selective).
On the intellectual side of things, classes are starting to get pretty tough, even in comparison to the real BYU. Many of my professors partially run their classes like high school; plenty of worksheets and pointless homework assignments, while still giving us university-standard papers, reading assignments, and finals. And yet, I manage to find time to play. It's funny how it works that way...when we place the Lord first in all that we do, he provides a way for us to accomplish all that we need to (with some occasional time to pursue personal ambitions).

Hi everyone;

Just some quick pictures from our trip to Idaho with Jamie and company.
Uncle Dan took his snowmobiles and we went up the canyon a couple of
times. Beautiful as always. The other picture is of Jordan's leg. He
was at the gym and caught his leg on a nail. "Tis but a scratch" he said.

It was great to see mom and dad, Kent and Mignon and family again. We
went over to lava, soaked for an hour, then left for home in a white-out
snow storm. It was pretty stormy until we hit Malad then clear most of
the way home.

Happy Hunters

     We are Happy to have our Dad home this weekend.  He has been busy. (Right now he is debugging our computer from a big fat virus) Paisley, Alyssa, Andrew and I picked him up from the airport Friday night and we all went to the Clark/Hansen Planetarium to poke around for a while.  It is a fun, free place for the looking.  Andrew loved the ball sculptures. 
     Saturday morning at (7 am) Kayla headed to Salt Lake to a indoor track meet, (8 am) Cami attended a leadership conference at BYU, (9 am) Paisley had ward basketball, and (10 am) Alyssa went to play at a friends. I looked at the clock and by 10:15 on a Saturday morning I made four trips one for each of the girls.  I turned to Andrew and said, "Now, where would you like to go?" 
     Michael made it all worth it as he returned from shopping to bring me 2 dozens roses and chocolates.  (He was jumping ahead of the Valentine rush)  What a Smart Guy!!!!.  He and I then went on a date to watch Cami perform in a Dance Recital in which she had a solo in a jazz number.  She misses dancing full time and she was great.  We brought her home and had Jamba Juice on the way.       Earlier at the BYU leadership conference, she was awarded a small leadership scholarship to any school of her choice.  She was one of four, out of about 100 girls.  She was pretty surprised and we were happy for her.
      Kayla said her meet went well and she bettered her time in two of her events.  Paisley is growing taller and taller and she and Cami are almost about even.  She has enjoyed basketball and in the last game was the first to score for her team.  Alyssa is growing up and keeps me sane by playing with Andrew while I try and get things done.  Andrew is absolutely the cutest kid ever.  His verbal skills seemed to have really jumped lately and he says some of the cutest things.  He likes playing with trains and reading books with mom.  He has a best friend and they play at least once a week.  They are library buddies and go to the story time together.  I attended a Stake Relief society lecture by Wendy Ulrich.  She is a psychologist and gave a great lecture about suffering and the eternal perspective. Well have a great week.  We love you all.

Grandpa's 80th Birthday.....

As many of you know GRANDPA CLEGG is turning 80 on the 4th of April.  To help him celebrate this wonderful event, we want to bring everyone together in an activity.  Thus

Saturday June 20th 9 AM to 6 PM

• 9 AM     Pancake Breakfast / Clean up
  
• 11 AM   Caravan Truck trip up Aunt Basin / Hike
  
• 1 PM     Light Lunch and Return Trip
  
• 3 PM     Prep Dinner
  
• 4 PM     Dinner of Roast Beef and Potatoes / Dessert (Ice Cream and Macaroons)
  
• 5 PM     Singing with guitars / Clean up
  

This is just a general outline but pretty much what Dad wanted to do for his 80th Birthday Celebration.  As is gets closer, we will be more specific about the details.  In case of bad weather we have two back up dates ,Saturday, July 4th and ,Saturday, August 8th.

     Paula is compiling a special song book specific for this occasion. It will consist of

1. Some of Dad's favorite hymns
   
2. Family favorite songs
   
3. Old songs we used to sing as children
   

 Please if you have the music to any of these songs (not the hymns) will you please xerox them on a 8 1/2  by 11 page and mail it to Paula. Where ever possible please send guitar versions. She is mass producing the book so we  can all have a copy or copies for our own use, hopefully by April or May. 

    Guitar players of the family, we specifically want you to come prepared to play along at the celebration, so take some time to practice and look through the songs. 
    Everyone else, please practice singing the songs so we can "WOW" our Grandpa at his 80th Birthday Celebration.

Peter's Week

Sunday night and after a nap and dinner at the Gibbs', logged on to the Internet to find a little crisis around work.  But... more about work later.. I'll put it all in one paragraph so that you who are sick of hearing about it can just skip it!  

So a great weekend.  Friday night had dinner in Salt Lake with an "award winning" film producer.  Interesting guy but I'm finding that so much of this industry is all about perception and not so much about reality.  He's done a couple of nice films but currently is living off income from one class he's teaching at a community college and unemployment insurance.  He's got low expense living down and believes that he can last a year which will allow him to compose music and screenplay writing.  Kind of scary if you ask me.  Me and a friend have been doing some research on taking Move technology to film festivals and what the producer guy told us about what's going on has us convinced that Amazon already has that piece of the market sewn up. 

Thursday was a treat with Kent, Mignon and all the little kids here for the evening.  They were on their way to the orthodontist.  Fun to have kids running through the house with laughter and toys.  Little Kai had owies in his mouth so he wasn't too happy but all in all a good time.  Saturday was a lazy day with some cleaning and a nice hike.  Anna and Steve came down for a luncheon with friends and then we all went to Thai dinner, to the hot tub (which turned out to be cold) and then watched a movie.  Fun to have them here as well.

Well for work.... I should just give you access to my private journal blog but if it were ever shared, which it can be easily, I'd be fired.  The short story is that this week the board of directors has been doing a deep dive on the company and Thursday was an all day long meeting where they looked at the company's accomplishments over the last year.  I thought it was interesting that all efforts that are currently the hope for the future had to be started clandestinely without letting the execs know.  What got presented to the board was basically four different business plans from four CEOs--all trying to use the same resources.  Rumor is they saw it that way and are going to focus on one and jettison or spin out the others.  So, again this week, whether or not I have a job is to be determined.  If they pick one of the options, I'll be safe and in the midst of it.  If they pick one of the others, I'm probably out.  At this point, I just want to get on to doing something that is productive. Friday afternoon, the Church came in and we gave them an overview of the things we are are working on.  There was a fair amount of future fiction in the story we told (fortunately, they know us well enough to see through it).... but by the end of Friday after a day and a half of board presentations and the church meeting, I felt like I wanted to just go home and take off my hip waders from trudging through crap for a couple of days!  I guess I need a better attitude but the lesson for me is that if those the lead are going to stretch the truth...it gets stretched worse as it rolls down the chain. I'm sure it works the same way in families.

Well, hope you're all well and that things are fairly secure.  As I look through the family and at the economy, we've got some precarious times that could put all but a couple using food storage! I doubt it will come to that but it's humbling to think how that there's not a lot of security.  I think we (or maybe our future generations) could really benefit from a family organization that focused on providing education, land, work experience and a degree of security for everyone.  I was reading through Elder Perry's conference talk on the things that Thereau determined were essential for living (shelter, food, fuel)...and how families could work together to insure those.  Something to think about.

Steve & Anna

Hi everyone. 
We haven't written for a while.  Steve is just finishing cookies for the evening.  He had to go to the neighbors to borrow some brown sugar to accomplish his designs.  Now we are waiting for the coconut, oatmeal, chocolate chip cookies to back. I have been video chatting with the family as he has stayed busy in my background.  I have a good husband.  :)  So we are well.  Steve is still plugging along in school.  He is already 1/3 of the way through this semester which means he faces midterms this week.  I am not excited about this since I have big plans for Presidents day weekend and am nervous I am going to have to let him do his thing to succeed in school while I try to do mine.  I am glad he is so dedicated though. 
Lets see...exciting events to discuss....
Steve and I went to a barbecue with Austin and Taylor and friends on Saturday.  We took Jessica to the event and everyone brushed right past Steve and I to give Jessica hugs and kisses and praises.  It was fun to see everyone.  Afterward we hung out with peter, playing some basketball in the back yard with a neighbor kid.  Jessica and Steve beat Aaron and I just by only a few points.  It was good to be outside to enjoy a somewhat warm afternoon and do something active.  Peter took us out to Thai food last night and we enjoyed good food and as always good conversation.  We also melted in the hot tub due to the heat and an overload of chemicals which made a decision for Steve and I in sleeping at Peter's and returning this morning in time for the last two meetings of church.  We were able to have Elder Hinkley visit our ward as one of his family friends returned from his mission.  Anytime we have an apostle in the congregation I always think of Elder Haight visiting the Oakley ward and chastising the Garner family over the pulpit for being so loud in sacrament meeting.  I always fear the criticizm of these apostles instead of probably really enjoying their presense.  Silly huh.  It was a good meeting as this elder just returned from Austria.  He shared a message of encouraging us to examine our lives to determine if we are trully progressing in our lives as much as we expect investigators to do.  He was a really quiet Elder but was strong in his testimony.  It makes me really excited to see Hayden again.  Elder Hinkley aslo shared his testimony and told about visiting the MTC's in Gautamala and Mexico City these last few weeks.  It makes me really see how broad our Heavenly Father's plan is and how vast his work is.  I am grateful for the gospel in our lives and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to have served a mission.  I leaned over and told Steve that as the missionary was speaking today. 
I love you all!!!!  We look forward to seeing some of you next week in St. George.  Steve just called to try and reserve the house so we are waiting to hear back about the reservations.  Anyone is welcome to join us as we are planning on hiking in Zion's and enjoying the out of doors for  a few days.  We love you again.
