RE: The crossroads

Just wanted to invite everyone to a sing along/ Lumpy Dick party next Sunday night.  We have early church so any time after noon you are welcome to come.  We will probably start eating around 5:00 or 6:00 and sing right after that.  Hard to believe the summer is gone and fall is in the air.  Hope to see you then.

Love

Afternoon Moos...

It's been an exciting week and weekend here in Raft River. A hurricane/tornado (in the making) roared through Raft River a couple of days ago.  It was preceded by a flurry of emergency alerts on everyone's cell phones: "Take Cover, Torndao Warnings, Take Cover!!!"  We videoed the storm as it gathered and brewed overhead in an amazing mixture of power and beauty.  Swirling slowly round and round it moved its way across the valley accompanied by lightening and followed with high winds and hail.  Doug, Patricia, Jason, Hayden Madeleine, Boston, Gordon and I all stood by our houses here on top of the hill helplessly watching it unfold as we did the only thing most people know how to do in emergencies, video it.  I thought later, it could have picked us up and carried us whirling away and we would be more concerned with the angle and shot we are taking as we cycloned up than for the safety of our lives.

We are on the tail end of the big Labor Day Weekend.  We are enjoying Hayden and Madeleine's company and are awaiting Gordon to finish preg-checking to celebrate the beginning of the fall with a picnic and swim at Indian Hot Springs.  Stuart is hiking with friends in Pocatello and many of you are probably enjoying likewise activities.
Anna and Steve and Francie are visiting Steve's sister and family in Chicago.  My smile was brought back to life talking to Kendrick, Megan, Jennie and George and Jessica (Anna for a minute).  I feel like Barbie in Toy Story her smile so big it hurts.

Speaking of hurting smiles and laughs.  We just enjoyed the ultimate red-necktacular diversion.  Sitting in the cab of Boston's work truck (the little blue Toyota) I rode as  passenger while Hayden drove with Boston sitting on a lawn chair in the back  remote controls of the Super Cub in hand flying the RC airplane with bright pink streamers tied to its landing gear. We drove down around the dairy and over to the feed lot 3 miles away.  Madeleine was camera-woman filming it all.  We laughed hard as Boston flew the plane up and over the underpasses across the freeway and down around the dairy, cows, feed truck, employees and haystacks.  At the feed lot  the vetenarian and employees had a good laugh as the little plane flew up and around the corrals landing along the manger beside them.  The little plane has served us well in the entertainment division.

Well, I am thankful Clayton is safe in Afghanistan.  His last report was well received and we must admit, he and Larsen take tops in prayers offered in their behalf. We love these men and the work they are doing in our behalf.

This letter closes with  Michael Jackson's "Beat It" reverberating in the great room next to this office, Hayden and Madeleine dancing to it with wild abandon.  Life's great!  I love you. Paula
