We had a great evening in Hyde Park eating soups and singing hymns. We sang every Christmas song (1 verse) and then everyone in the room picked a hymn to sing....A good time with great voices! We missed the other 5 families that couldn't make it but look forward to doing it again.

Christmas, Christmas...Cheer...

It's been a busy week or so and I just wanted to post a few of the highlights.  I headed out Christmas eve with stops at Hunters, met Amy in the mall parking lot then the Littlefields, then to Dan's where I snapped a few shots of Hayley and Erin's great artistry.  Hayley won the gingerbread house making contest with a still life replica of the big house on the ranch--complete with swing, chickens picking Mom's flowers, the Christmas star and the satellite dish! Very good.  PLUS, see Erin's first hand at artistry with a self portrait--it's almost as beautiful as she is! Then to Frank's for fun with the kids and watching little Ryan take his first steps.  (Steve family was in Mexico on a cruise).  Then to Ben's where they were all in the purple van headed to Sizzler for Christmas eve dinner with the Burr grandparents.  Then on to Grace where everything was shrouded in fog and every branch and twig was completely covered in frost shards...beautiful!  See the shot of the weeping willow in my yard.  It...and all the other trees that were so outlined in the dark/light contrast made me think of Grandmother Clegg's favorite poem.  

Wonderful to spend time with Dad and Mom.  Dad went for a trike ride before the next storm hit.  Christmas day with Kent's family.  Church was great with the Christmas program as they had been snowed out the week before and postponed the program where Dad and Mom were both in the choir.  Sunday evening all those that could met at Ben's for soup, singing and fun.  Ben gave all his brothers and Dad "Rocket Engineering" hats (see model shots).  I worked from home up there and last night, went to the hot pots with Kent & kids to top it off.  Great holiday!  Missed seeing Webbs but look forward to next time.

Steven/Shannon Mexico trip

Here are some pictures from our trip to Mexico last week.  We left from Long Beach, cruised to Cabo San Lucas, then over to Mazatlan, then down to Puerto Vallarta.  The best part was definitely walking the back streets and visiting with the locals.  That's how we roll.

Saturday we visited with Spencer.  As you can tell from his email we got a little too close in our visit to the mission home.  He was inside the church complex doing a zone get together.  We took pictures of his car and booked it out of there before he walked out on us.  Sorry Spencer. I take full responsibility for that lapse in judgment.  But we seriously thought he would be at members house that day instead of at the office.

Brandon, Ashley and the boys (I just have to say that sounds so cool to say "and the boys")--Talmage and Tanner went to Orlando for the week. Sounds like they are having fun.

I went to get my ridgeline inspected and it failed because window tint was too dark.  Huh??  I guess in Arizona (where it was purchased from) can have darker tinting.  $85 later and it doesn't look different.

RE: Sunday sing along

I noticed I forgot to give a time for the sing along tomorrow.  We are out of church at 2:00.  You are welcome to come as early as you want and stay as late as you want.  We will plan to eat around 5:00.  There will be soup, homemade bread, cookies and left over Christmas goodies (Lumpy Dick if we need it).  We will get some hymn books from the church so just plan on coming.   See you then.  Call if you need directions. J

Important Day Today!

Just wanted to let you know that today is a day I've been looking forward to for several months now. No, it's not the start of Christmas vacation.  Today is Winter Solstice! The day when the days quit getting shorter and darker and the sun starts it's migration back to the north.  In short...summer's coming!  But, it's not quite that simple. In looking in to how many more minutes of daylight we'll have in the morning, I discovered that we actually end up getting less in the morning....but more in the evening.  In the end, with sunrise still getting later for the next few days and sunset also getting later, it works out that (in Provo at least) we have 9 hours and 18 minutes of sunlight every day from December 17 to December 27--ten days of minimal sun light.  After that, the days start getting longer and longer until June 15th to 22nd when we have 15 hours and 3 minutes of sunlight. 

Just a message of encouragement....we're half way!

Multi-week Update

Sunday morning and just sitting here at home for a change (i.e., not at Bishopric meeting, PEC or Ward Council) as the student wards are off for the next couple of weeks. Stuart and Kim stayed the night and had a good visit with them and then Jessica and Clayton just popped in to say hi before they head to Salt Lake to have the family pictures taken. So good to see them!

Not many entries in the last couple of weeks...mainly because Sunday's have been so busy with tithing settlement but things are going well. A highlight was having a brother's lunch at Noodles in Draper last week as Ben came down from Logan, Dan from Fruit Heights, Steve was in the area and Frank and I work there. Attached are a few shots. Just so good to see everyone and grateful that everyone has work and generally all are doing well.

I'm still eating an apple every day from my tree..they keep nice in the crisper and also made some juice that I froze. I've been in pretty good health...thanks maybe to the apples and probably more due to cycle camp and good sleep. I'm getting to where I wake up automatically at 4:30. Workouts are growing in intensity but I'm still enjoying it.

Work is going good. This week we had strategy meetings which are always a mixed bag as you come away with new things to do but missed a couple of days of good production in the process. I had lunch with the two guys that are our account reps for the developers we work with in the Ukraine on Friday. The brought some Ukrainian chocolate from Leviv (the city where they are)--really good chocolate but tasted like they had been made where people smoke!

Yesterday, a friend invited me to a John Schmidt piano concert. I'd heard his work (Ben's kids) but never seen him. It was quite an entertaining show. On the last song, he had the cello player take over the piano while he climbed up a platform, then did a backflip and as he landed, sparks came out of his shoes and the lights went out.

I know they didn't want me to record but hopefully, I'm giving you a preview of what Dad and Mom will do for the Christmas sing-along at Ben's on Sunday next of Dad with his guitar and harmonica and Mom with her tin whistle. I was recording in stealth mode so it's not too clear. They performed for the Hunter's here at home evening and for the Littlefields.

I was going through a box of photos and came across this one of the older kids dressed for Halloween! With Josh, Joe and Spencer now on missions and Zan, Jamie, Hayley and Megan all at college or working....WOW! What a great thing to have those little kids turn into responsible adults!

Well...the home ward asked me to sing in the choir and while there, I got asked to speak at a Court of Honor tonight so I better get ready. Looking forward to hopefully seeing most of you over the holidays! I think Steve & fam are coming to Idaho for New Year's eve but if anyone else wants to use the house during the week, it's open!

Hunter Home Front

Hello everyone!!!  This is the latest from the Hunter Home Front.  Well what can I say, we've been enjoying this warm weather lately.  It's a little strange for December but it's a little easier to move around when the temperature is so moderate.  We enjoyed having Grandpa and Grandma Clegg around for a week.  Here are three highlights from their visit, Family Home Evening, the Carl Bloch exhibit, and biking with Andrew and Grandpa. It felt like Christmas having them here!  THANK YOU PETER! FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF THEM, DRIVING THEM DOWN FROM IDAHO AND TAKING THEM BACK. At Family Home Evening our whole family was there.  Grandpa and Grandma played the harmonica, guitar, penny whistle while we sang, it was great. On Wednesday, I was able to take Mom and Dad to the Carl Bloch art exhibit, life sketches of the Savior, where we spent an hour and half gazing at some pretty incredible art pieces.  It's hard to imagine they are the real thing all the way from Denmark and Sweden.  I felt the spirit of his paintings and uplifted from the time we spent.  Now, when I see his work I'm quicker to identify it. It's used quite frequently.   Friday Dad, Andrew and I went for a short ride over at the church on bicycles.  We rode around the parking lot, sidewalks and Andrew tried a couple of tricks. It was fun to see Andrew with Grandpa.

Well as far as the rest of the family, Michael has had a switch at work and is doing well restructuring his business model.  Cambria is doing school, dating, and keeping the organ keys warm.  Kayla just took the ACT yesterday and is doing pretty much the same, dating and school.  Paisley is reading, reading, reading, with a little Kung Fu and the dishes.  Alyssa is doing dishes and always has a project that she is busy with her hands.  Andrew is into Preschool, play dates, and being mom's helper.  Yesterday we rigged the wagon up behind his bike so he could pull some bags of leaves over from the neighbors.  He had a great time.  Our wagon has a dumper on it so he dumped the leaves out onto the garden.  You would of thought he was in heaven!

Merry Christmas to everyone and we're hoping to get a family picture/Christmas card out, but don't hold your breath.   We love you all!!!! 

Peter's Week

Sunday night and just sitting here with my Lithuanian slippers by the Heat Dish, trying to ignore the fact that it's really getting to be winter outside.  Last night I was in Salt Lake and stopped by the Greene's to visit (and enjoy a penini) and as I left, there was four inches of snow on the BMW! I just about didn't make it back up the side road to Foothill drive.  Heading down the freeway, hose big Dodge trucks would drive by, spraying slosh from their big wheels...right into my window with a blasting sound like being hit by a metal chain. Slow going but made it home fine.  

So the highlight of the week has been cycle camp...even though I have to get up at 4:30 to get there! It's fairly close to the office so I'm done in plenty of time for work.  This week has been long, slow simulated hill climbs--three days of that to build strength and two days of high RPM spins to get legs limber.  Anyway, it's enjoyable and I'm already sleeping better.  A second highlight (due to calories burned cycling) was the Kiwi Lime Crumble Pie Beyond Glazed Doughnut (pictured).

For a lunch break one day, I went looking for tractors.  What do you think of this one?  Yeah...too expensive!

Quick update..

Work week was good.  Saturday in the worldwide leadership training which was good and then flew some friends for an hour or so.  One little boy threw up but luckily we had a bag and he had perfect aim! Big news today is that I've moved into my new office (I now have a door!).  Also, power cycle camp started this morning! Feelin good!

Hunter Homefront

This is a quick note.  It's Sunday evening and and a little late 10:21 p.m.  I got carried away indexing in the newfamilysearch and used up all my writing time.  Kayla is sitting here. She just returned from Idaho from a trip with the cousins.  Sounds like they had a great time.  Thanks Mom and Dad for taking such good care of them. Michael is in Dallas, Texas at his business partners wedding.  He said it was nice. He'll return tomorrow.  We had snow tonight and Andrew and I rode our bikes around the block just for fun.  Well I guess Josh is now in the MTC. Hope all is going well.  Cami cut her hair and it looks really cute. Well I'm looking forward to getting the yard and garden put to bed for the winter and starting on the Thanksgiving cooking.  Have a great week!!!

Hunter Homefront

What a beautiful weather week. The Autumn leaves were that stunning vibrant yellow and the warm sun added to the fall ambiance.  Andrew and I tried to take advantage of the weather and ride our bikes as much as we could.  On Monday I rode with him to school.  We were a little late getting away. At a major intersection, we stopped to let four emergency vehicles pass.  He was so excited to be right there as they rushed past.  He loves fire engines and anything that has to do with machinery.  We rode on to school and then I returned to pick him up after school.  It took us three hours and 15 minutes to get home because we went to the park where he met a new friend Marcus and they played for an hour.  Then to the toystore in the River Bottoms where he rides the bikes (they have floor models for trial), then to Borders to read books, and finally home the long way which adds and extra 1 1/2 miles.  I hope he  got his exercise because I sure got mine.  It was such a beautiful day. 

Kayla returned late Tuesday night from L.A.  She had a nice time and they swept both competitions they went to. It was a nice conclusion to her four year Marching Band experience. 

Alyssa's birthday was on Wednesday.  We didn't celebrate too much because she is having a party next week.  Her friend from next door took her the toy store where she was able to pick out some of her favorites to bring home. 

Thursday was very busy with Alyssa staying home from school for Job Shadow Day.  We made two trips to the BYU campus to interview professors.  The first was Michael Parker in Visual Arts.  We attended his 114 Beginning Iillustration Class and then he took us on tour of four BYU art studios around campus. It was fascinating !!  It was very informative and the professor was so good with Alyssa.  I learned so much!!  He also took us to the animation studio in the Crabtree building where we met the department head of animation and viewed some the departments work. We received a tour of the whole animation process.  It was quite a tour, for all for a 13 year old.  Later in the day we met a professor of entomology where Alyssa attended a 500 level class  on bugs.  She listened to part of a lecture which she said she couldn't understand much but then they got out the microscopes and looked at specimens .I was with her during that part and it was amazing!   She was well received.  We rounded out the evening by attending a guided tour of the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point for a birthday party.  I don't thing I've learned so much in one day for quite a while.  On the way home Alyssa said she would like to be held back next year just so she can to have Job Shadow day again. 

Today was Kayla's 18th birthday.  Yesterday Michael, Kayla, and I went to Indian food to celebrate.  It was Kayla's choice.  Michael knows the owner of the restaurant so he came out and visited with us about the Indian food making process.  The whole dinner was yummy.  It made my tummy happy.  When you turn 18 you have a right of passage to buying dry ice, shopping on infomercials, voting, and non-group dating.  I think Kayla is well prepared for this big step.  We Love Her!!!

Peter's Week

A quick update with some pics.  The week was good as far as work goes.  Getting ready for a board meeting so going through a lot of hoops to make sure we look good. I'm finding I enjoy doing the user interface design quite a bit more than the other stuff and there's quite a bit to be done so looking forward to that over the next couple of months.  In the lingo of the industry, it's called UXP (user experience).  

Friday was a work from Idahome day so scampered down to the airport early in the morning to find the battery on the plane too low to start.  That set me back about 25 minutes but was soon in the air and heading northward.  Attached are a couple of pics...one as I came past Timp and the sun was just coming up...and the other descending down low enough to buzz the house.  Airspeed only indicated about 170 but the GPS showed over 200 mph! Note the Bear River off to the left which is about Cleveland just before it goes into the Narrows. Don had left my airport car at the airport and I was plugged in and working by 10 a.m.  A good productive day there.

Good to see Dad and Mom every couple of weeks.  We went for a drive just as the sun was setting  (that magic time of day) and all of the hues of gold and browns with a few aspen yellows and the green of the pines.  We drove up around the Christensen place (Tippets) and then over to Niter past Hubbards and then Mathews. Then down to see the latest at Nathan Stuart's (foundations for 4 cabins and a new machine shed), then home at dark.  

Saturday lawn mowing and a few things around the house (see the shots of Mom and Dad's new garage door and Joe and DOG) and then back to Soda where Don, Abby and Macie came to help make sure the plane started.  Back to Utah home with plenty of daylight and a picture perfect landing.  Fun to fly but the main radio went out which I'm dreading paying for.  I also got a quote for new carpet which is quite expensive.  I've about decided that for the last 10 years of my working life, I can either pay off the Utah house....or continue to fly--about the same price.  If this were a real blog, you could all write your opinions on what to do and we could discuss.  Needless to say, if you're like Grant and getting the Personal Management merit badge (which I teach), the advice would be pay off the house!

Stopped by the Hunter's tonight for a good visit and to drop off the box that came from the attic and enjoyed looking through a little photo album of Amy's, then watching Virginia dance on video....fun! Attached is a photo of Grandpa and Grandma Clegg that I hadn't seen before.  Enjoy! 

Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Kayla who turned 18 today! She can now buy dry ice!
