Michael Hunter Family:
So, after many hard hours of training, I barely beat Kendrick, thanks in part to a flat tire on his part. Here are the time for Me and Kendrick There was a great collection of Spud's collecting at the Webb Dairy. We had 8 contestants, including a large stack of Brintons (Friends of Kendrick). All and all it was a lot of fun, and the Webbs are great hosts. Thanks Paula and Gordon.
Going back in history a little bit. Here are some Summer photos.

Hiking the Narrows--Steven/Shannon
Hi everyone;
This past week was pretty eventful. First we headed for St George after
church last Sunday. The drive down was very relaxing--as always--and we
got to the hotel around 10:30. Jamie drove most of the way to finish
getting her prerequisite hours before she can get a drivers license.
Then Spencer took over and the rest was a blur because of how fast he
was driving and the torrential rain. Next day we got up and headed to
Zions to hike the Narrows. It was sunny and beautiful but a 30% chance
of rain. We were a little anxious heading up the canyon. Every time we
asked a park ranger if we should continued, they started talking in
lawyer speak about "use your best judgment...look at the whether
reports...we can't advise on your safety." Liability avoidance must
part of park ranger training now. Anyway, you can see from the pictures
that we were hiking in muddy water the entire time. It was still fun
and the kids didn't hesitate to jump in over their heads. Monday night
we got back to the hotel and Deanne was there. We all showered and
headed to Tuacahn theater to watch Sound of Music. The open theater was
hot and bugs were everywhere but the talent was unbelievable and my kids
are still whistling tunes from the musical a week later. Tuesday, we
did some golf at South Gate and then packed up to get home for Jamie's
date. She drove the entire way home. Shannon and her mother went on to
Las Vegas to make presentations at the International Lactation
conference. Sounds like they did a great job and are considered rock
stars in the breast feeding world. The rest of us went about our daily
activities this week until Shannon got home late last night. Friday
morning I got the boys up and we went and did 9 holes across the highway
at Davis Golf. It's truly fun to hang with my boys. Wish Brandon lived
closer so we could come with us. for more entertaining video, check out
Spencer's swimming pool antics. That one dive me makes doing a cork
screw is pretty cool. He had his 18th birdthday on Friday and there
were kids coming and going from 8pm to midnight at our house. It was a
lot of fun. Spencer has some pictures he can upload.
That's all for now.

Peter's Week
It's 3 a.m. I made the mistake of going down for a Sunday nap at 7 p.m. and have now been awake since 12:45 a.m. Oh well.... at least I got a nap which really felt good! This week has been... pretty good. Coming back from vacation on a Monday is difficult...you have to bear down for a whole week but by Friday, things were looking up a little. I was given two tasks the first week there; one was overlays and the other was performance statistics. Both should have take 3-4 weeks but this week, we finally got cuts at both. The overlays don't work very well but at least we know where we need to improve. The stats are very good and the engineer that worked on them is excellent.
In other news, I got my little scratches and dents in my truck fixed. A Latino in Shane's ward came to my work, picked it up and returned it a day later--completely detailed and all dents out--for half the price of the other bid I got. Feels good to get those reminders of my mistakes removed! Saturday, I had a good day. Mowed my lawn for therapy and then continued painting my bedroom. At Rachel's suggestion, I did the entire thing in a dark blue and it looks very nice...I like it! Now, on to the rest of the house! Afterwords, I went for a bike ride. I've had two flats this week and so I rode my mountain bike which was fun to get on again. I rode up the water tower road and got to the high trail just as the sun had gone down and all of the lights were one--it was a magical time of day with the light and so warm and pleasant. I just laid on a cement cistern and watched it get dark. Riding down was a little hairy but I made it.
One highlight of the week was going to the debutant gala as Mckayla's escort. It was fun to present here and then to dance afterwords and to watch all of the kids having a good time. The picture is included above.

blued and tatoo'd
Steven's Tatoos
Steven had surgery this week on his nose (not fun)--he feels like he was hit by a sledge hammer. Anyway--while under anesthesia his surgeon (a neighbor) put multiple tattoos on him. So funny. When he woke up in his dazed state he said, "what is that" as he pointed down to the waves that encircled his ankle. Oh my, pretty soon he found a heart on one ankle and a flower on the other. As he began to wake up I showed him the American Flag and eagle that adorned his right bicep. Alas--I thought I'd keep the rose just behind his left ear a secret--it was so cute. Go Dr. Barlow! They still haven't washed off and now he is thinking he might want to keep them! Add a leather jacket and a few chains and he might just stay "positionless" in our ward! Shannon
Hunter's
We have tried to be so sophisticated with our technology and send pictures but when all the techy people aren't home we have to revert to the word.
Michael is in L.A. and has been down there for almost 2 and 1/2 weeks. I don't know if it has been the summer blues or what but it has been a tough having him
gone this time. I went with Amy, Paula, an Anna to a session and lunch at the Mt.Timpanogas temple and it was a very welcome break. Kayla bless her heart baby sat for 5 hours so I could enjoy myself. Event though
I have been a little fearful of our quiet summer( most of our traveling has been completed) we have had some really fun things come up. Frank and Drew dropped in one day, we went swimming with the Hunter cousins,
to the Scera pool an ice cream with Paisley's 4H group, a neighbor ice cream party, the Library multiple times, dress shopping with Kayla for a 16th birthday coming out party, warm cookies at Amy's, and general cleaning, shopping, and chores. Just a note on each of us. Michael stared down two attack dogs while out running and is preparing for the Spudman Triathlon in Burley next week, I went running with Kayla and actually made it a mile while she went on for three, Cami went to EFY in Santa Barbra with a friend and to her surprise was assigned next door to her two Hunter cousins from California (maybe, since they all had the same last name?), Kayla went to a debutante party and due to Michael being away Uncle Pete consented to present her, Paisely made money dog sitting and errand running, Alyssa sold lemonade yesterday in 98 degree weather and sold out in 40 minutes making $3.25 she was ecstatic, Andrew, Andrew, Andrew is the cutest little kid ever, he is talking saying please, thank you, and sorry and loves a DK Truck book we got him at the library, he knows the name of almost every piece of heavy machinery there is, Mindy is washed and pet able and makes us feel safe at night. Well this is just a little news and we hope you are all well.

This is Jordan at the Children's Museum. Keep in mind he is 11. (I was trying SO hard not to laugh while filming this)
Steven/Shannon Family Update
Hi Everyone;
Sorry it's been so long. This past few weeks have been very busy. Has
summer started yet? Oh yeah, it's over half done now. I've included
some pictures of our trip to Hayden Lake Idaho with the Rietz family.
They drove up from Lewiston and brought their jet skis. We rented a
cabin right on the lake with a private dock. Thanks again to John and
Michele for bringing their family and jet skis. Jamie drove the jet ski
while I was on the tube. She spun the tube around so fast that when I
hit the water it tore my sandals completely in two. Awesome!
In the medical news, I had my nose worked on today. They fixed a
deviated septum and took out a bone spur and also found a couple of
trolls in my left nostril. Just kidding about the trolls. The last
time my nose felt like this was the first day of baseball practice when
I was 8. The blood stains on my old mitt are still visible.
Tyler and Jordan are up at the cabin with Shannon's mom last night and
tonight. They spent Monday and Tuesday at John Beck's football camp
down at Provo High. Tuesday night when they got back was pretty
exciting to hear them describe in great detail all their drills and
which BYU players they got to hang with. Tyler won the Punt, Pass, and
Catch contest for his age. Chip off the old block. I still have some
angst about winning that contest 38 years ago with steel toed work
shoes. But hey, that was the only pair I had at the time that wasn't
manure stained.
Jamie turned 16 a couple of weeks ago and then left for Lake Powell with
the neighbors. She had to fly up to Hayden Lake alone because she came
a day later than we did. Thanks Hayley for dropping her off and picking
up at the airport.
Kudos to Brandon and Ashley for moving me closer to the moniker
"grandpa." I look like a grandpa but seriously need to mature more
before the baby arrives. I've simplified my goals to attain by my 50th
birthday in November: Lose weight; grow up. Who needs Dr Phil.
Well, I had a very special experience tonight with Spencer using his
priesthood to give me a blessing. The spirit was very strong. What a
joy to have such wonderful kids! They have their mother in them for sure.

Peter's Week
Week two away from the office... went well. Monday more work on the house, framing in the new shower and getting things ready for more drywall. Tuesday, we spent a portion of the day at Aunt Golda's funeral. It was a very nice service and such a beautiful day. There were quite a few people there and Stanley, Lynn and Utauna were all classily attired and the flowers were beauitul--many of them wild flowers that they had picked from the hillsides. Norval and Dad spoke and then Lynn and her husband Chuck gave memories from people and a life sketch. Lynn read from the history that Aunt Golda had written and it was very entertaining. She promised she would send me a copy that I could digitize. Apparently, about 10 years ago, Aunt Golda had put gotten a little suitcase and put her temple clothes and history in it with instructions on the funeral. Afterwards, we went to the pavillion near the stake center and had a luncheon. The weather was a stark contrast to the day that Uncle Card was buried in January of 1969--I remember that day with a freezing north wind blowing.
Wednesday, I framed out a box for the fridge to stick in the backroom so there is more room in the kitchen and then headed to Scout Camp at the BLAB (Bear Lake Aquatics Base). It was more of an endurance test than fun as the boys had pretty much finished up the merit badges they were working on and didn't want to do anymore. I read a lot and went swimming with the boys. I was a little disappointed at the fact that we didn't get to sail but on the last day, they did a canoe swamp which was kind of fun to watch. We made it home safe and well and the boys earned an average of 6 merit badges per boy. Of course, don't ask them anything that they learned...they don't remember it but hey, they got it passed off!
The BLAB is on the east side of the lake and I thought how it might be nice to do the EFCY weekend over there in August. There is a nice campground where you can set up tents and then drive on the beach. I think we could get a couple of boats and would really like to line up a couple of sail boats and we could learn sailing as a skill. It was really nice on the water. I'll check to see who's got what going on for schedules with everyone. We also talked about doing Webb Basin with cooking and going to the Temple open house in Twin Falls.

Peter & Dad & Mom
Late Sunday night and just sorted through the pictures from the last few days and posted a few of the trip to the Tetons (http://www.clegg.org/photos/080705_Grand_Teton/index.html). Great trip! A little sore today in the quads but it went well. Total height--13,770 feet and about the last 700 feet were technical climbs. Thank goodness for our awesome guide Eddie!!! We hiked to 11,000 feet and camped on Wednesday and then spent all day Thursday training on climbing techniques (bouldering, ropes, holds, rock climbing, rappelling, short pitches, short loops, glissading, crampons, self arrests and more. It was a full day but we used every skill on Friday as we climbed to the summit. We left at 3:30 in the morning and made it on top by 10 a.m.. Lots of just putting one foot above the other and not looking down!!! We were only on top for a few minutes when a squall came in and although it didn't look electrical.... it was! There were two groups of us (5 climbers) and three guides--two of the guides got zapped as electricity arced from the ice axes in their packs to their helmets. Painful but not lethal and there was a mad scramble to get down and out of the storm. It soon passed and we moved on down to a rappel that included about 70 feet of free fall from an overhang. Eddie said save 50% for getting back down which I thought was a little over kill. Going down didn't take as hard breathing energy but it seemed a lot longer so I agreed with him at days end. Were back by 4 p.m. to high camp where we stayed for another night and then worked our way back to the trail head on Saturday morning. The trip was definitely out of my "comfort zone" but always feels good to get up and away and really work all those muscles. The stars were absolutely brilliant! For those of you who want to attempt the Grand, I recommend an experienced guide! We learned so much and felt really safe. It could be done without one if you have good climbing experience and some rope skills but only if you know the weather is completely predictable which it often is not. While there, we watched a helicopter rescue of someone on the next peak over who had an accident glissading (sliding on your seat) down a couloir (slope) with crampons (pointy metal things on your feet) and broke his leg with a compound fracture (bone sticking out).Back here on the ranch, things are going well. Spent a little time with Kent surveying the Hale Nature Preserve and all the projects that are going on there under his supervision. It appears that all the cousins that spent time in the pond over the weekend have been infected with Swimmers Itch (a parasite from water with prevalent snails and ducks that causes bad itching for a few days but is harmless). Diagnosis prognostications ranged from Chick Pox from the pools in Lava, to spider bites, to reaction to the foam from the July 4th sudsing in the park in Soda.
Mom and Dad are doing well and it's great to have warmer weather where they can both get outside in the air and sun. We've had family and friends and it's been great to have them here. Still working on the house... electrical is done and sub floors at this point. Next is the bathroom fixtures and the more dry wall. I think we'll be ready for mudders and tapers next round in a couple of weeks. I'd like to nominate Steve for landscape design and management--we need a Turff Doctor...as well as a driveway doctor, tree doctor, shrub, annuals, etc. Anyone want to second it? That will probably be the next big thing we can all work on.
Several discussions on EFCY over the weekend. We're thinking a Friday/Saturday (maybe come in Thursday night) camp out somewhere in August. Maybe City of Rocks, or Webb Farms (during the Temple open house), or a hike into Alaska Basin near Driggs, or .... other ideas here. Let us know what you think....
OK...it's 1 a.m. and I gotta hit the sack....if I can get up the stairs with my sore legs!
Love to all,
Peter
