Week in Review

Another week consumed by work.  Not complaining however as the challenge is very invigorating.  We had our quarterly product review meeting which started at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.  The first two product managers (there are four of us) gave their presentations in front of most of the rest of the company.  Then the CEO dismissed everyone except the product managers and development managers and proceeded to tell us that as a company, we were pathologically late in delivering product and that it was costing dearly in such an opportunity market.  It got fairly heated and at one point, he told me that what I needed to get done should be done and that everyone worked for me...and if they didn't do what I needed done, I should fire them!  It was a good mandate to get all working forward to make some progress.  There is so much to do and my list of things to get done increases even while I'm just writing it down!

I spent most of the first session of conference watching conference on two systems, with different versions of the product and also keeping an eye on the stats that were coming in.  It looked to me that there were approximately 100,000 people at some points watching conference simultaneously through the BYU.TV site.  Not quite as good as Oprah but close! Maybe if they advertised Conference on Oprah....

Good to catch up a little with friends this week.  Jeff Foulger was in town and we had lunch and a good visit.  Brian Voigt was here from North Carolina with is daughter Lauren. She is 12 and he brought her here to see BYU and conference.  Great to catch up over Mexican dinner.  Last night, Eric Germann and some of his buddies came over and we ate, watched the UNC/Kansas game after Priesthood, and then looked through some of his photos.  He just got accepted to the BYU Photography program which he has about a one in ten chance of getting in. To apply, you just give them ten photos and hope it works out.  He'll be entering the program when he gets back from his mission to California.  One of his photos is attached.  If you want to see his site, go to www.ecgphotography.smugmug.com.

Well, I hope that all have a good week!  I fertilized my lawn yesterday and then turned on the water and checked all the sprinkler heads.  Also, picked out some paint so I can redo the paint in my upstairs bedroom before I move up there.  I picked a yellow daffodil to show Mom and Dad that spring has come, albeit a little further south of them.

The word of the week is SKYPE!!! We got Dad & Mom hooked up and also Don and Greshen.  For those not familiar, SKYPE is a video/phone solution across the Internet.  All you need is a camera and a microphone to get set up. You create an account for free.  It's pretty cool in that I can see Dad and Mom while we're talking.  If anyone wants to try it, get set up.  Target has camera/microphone combos for about $25.  You can also order them at skype.com

Love to all,
Peter
