Hi All,
Just a quick update for the week. Kind of wild. Still sorting out at work after the layoffs. I get the impression that I'm supposed to be taking care of all details that are not known by anyone above me in the chain-- :-) In other words, "we don't know what you do specifically but if anything goes wrong, you should have known about it!". I spent part of the week working with Band Crashers (www.bandcrashers.com). They think they are going to stream live concerts for Sting, Lenny Kravits (sp?) and others over the Sundance Film Festival but they are working with a new player, new page, four sets of developers and new crews and then expect it to go off without a hitch! Clueless. What's more, I understand that we just signed a 18 month exclusive with them to cover all music events--can you say bullet in the foot (300 magnum)? Anyway, Friday night I was manning the operations center with a satellite truck at the "Battle of the Bands" concert, five camera guys, feeding through a satellite to our satellite operations center in Murray, then to five of our encoders and back through the Internet to us in American Fork. There were supposed to be five live screens on the web page and here's me and another guy, up to our elbows in html code, trying to figure out why none of it worked. First, having me do that is WAY scary! It didn't go well..... maybe another trial on Wednesday and then a real Live event on Saturday!
But, we left right from that on Friday, and went to the airport in Salt Lake where we awaited the arrival of our dear Sister Webb from her mission in Lithuania! What a treat and a great way to spend a Saturday night! David, Jordan and Tyler went to the top of the forbidden stairs and escorted her down the escalator. She looked wonderful! It was great to give her a hug and see her return. There were tears and hugs and many of the family were there including Steve & Shannon and kids, Dan & Jill and kids, the Hunters (Michael had just come in from CA), me and Amy and the Webbs. I look forward to spending more time with my old roommate and catching up on the last 18 months!
So for the Christmas party... the kids are hoping for a gift exchange. I know it's a hassle for parents but unless there's major objection, can we do it? Dollar store items are the theme. I'm sure some of us located near Dollar stores can pick up a large supply for those not near so let us know if you want something.
See you all on the weekend!
