Peters Week

Work - A darker cloud appeared over this company this week as
employees began to think through ramifications of what rapidly moving
to a new business model means. Excitement and motivation were ebbing
to say the least. I officially moved from my cube with the fantastic
view upstairs to one that is much smaller and less aesthetically
pleasing. There was one point in the move where I seriously
considered just moving my stuff right on out the door and to the car!
But, I really want to see if we have any shot in this new business
arena and have set April 1 as the next decision point so will see what
I can do to help make something happen between now and then. Needless
to say, I was really glad when Friday night came around.

Mooney Chronicles - so I talked to Kent and he described to me what
Gene Bennett and the Alaska bush pilots do when they need to pre-heat
an engine. I looked around for parts and over Friday night and
Saturday built me something that worked quite well...at least in 35
degree weather! It is a trash can with dryer vents and hoses on top
that go into the cowling. Inside is a little Buddy catalytic heater
and the vents in the bottom of the can allow heated air to rise and
flow into the engine. I put a sleeping bag over the top and after
about 2 hours, the engine was warmed up quite nicely. I climbed in
the plane, went through the checklist and it popped to life after two
cranks! Pretty pleased with myself and glad to have it running after
a couple of months. I was beginning to think I might be out of flying
business until spring! The mic on the radio still doesn't work but we
have a hand held that we can use if we need to. Check out all the
instructions on how to build it here:

Service - I got a call to help someone in our ward move on Saturday.
My oh my! I have done some pretty nasty moves before and this was just
fantastic! Everything was in color coded boxes. Nothing too heavy.
Food storage was all in plastic buckets. No piano! No hid-a-bed couch!
I told the lady that they get the award for the best organized move
ever! They still had a lot of stuff but we had a good group of high
priests and some of the elders came to help so we did to large moving
trucks and about 6 pickups and in three hours had them moved out and
moved in...all without any help from the ward they moved into.
Compared to the guy that had 2.5 tons of wheat, two 50 gallon barrels
of kerosene, three gigantic safes and a big piano.... it was
pleasurable service.

Stake conference last night and today and it was very good. Today we
had the mission president for the Utah Provo Mission come and talk.
He said they had 190 missionaries and 220 stakes--more stake
presidents than missionaries in their mission. He said they go to the
MTC to pick up new elders and once they're in the car, they're already
in their missions. Lots of missionaries open their calls at BYU to
find out they are already in their mission. Very good talk and he and
his wife are converts who were met by sister missionaries in western
New York.

A nice nap, this afternoon. Dinner at the Littlefields and then the
Hunters came over here to my house to watch pictures of Costa Rica on
the big screen and share their treat of lumpy dick! It's been a good
day and ready to see what kind of drama this week brings!
