News Aplenty

WOW! So much activity this last week that it's taken me an extra week to get around to putting it together! All good stuff!

Spencer came home on Tuesday. Most of the pictures have been sent to everyone but so great to see his smiling face and feel of his wonderful spirit! He was launched back into regular life with wild dancing at the Doxy wedding reception! He's working to get on at the MTC as a teacher while living with the grandparents Francis and entering BYU this fall studying accounting and business. It was so good to see him and realize that he didn't have to change much on his mission because he's such a good guy already!

Thursday night, I attended the play the Wizard of Oz at Davis High where Melissa was Glinda, the good witch and Gavin and Sophia were munchkins. The play was well done and Melissa fit the part perfectly. Gavin and Sophie were adorable with singing and dancing. As all the munchkins left the stage, Gavin was the last one out and turned back and waved which the crowd loved. You're not supposed to take pictures but I snuck a few for this publication...how often do you get to see one of your relatives as a flying witch?

A wonderful day in Logan as Megan and Alex became Mr. and Mrs. Doxy! Alex's grandfather performed the marriage and the festivities began outside the temple with congratulatory hugs and kisses from the large extended family. We were roughly calculating and with 49 Clegg cousins and like 25 Burr cousins for Megan and 85 Doxy cousins and 30+ Olsens for Alex--together they have around a hundred and ninety first cousins! Fortunately not everyone showed up but those that did partied hearty! A wedding luncheon was held at the Hamilton's restaurant and afterwards a reception in the back yard of the Clegg villa in Hyde Park. The Ben & Janet family had all pitched in and the place was beautiful with lights, fountains, shades and a selection of drinks and sweets. The family were all so beautifully dressed and were perfect hosts. I thought it a nice touch that Megan picked colors that matched the family van!

The bride and groom were beautiful and handsome--and the thing that set it off was the DANCING! A couple of Alex's folk dance buddies performed a Russian bottle dance where they dance with full open bottles in their hats--it is a Yiddish tradition to impress the bride and groom. As soon as they finished, Alex sprang to the dance floor with a flurry of feet, jumps and shouts in a Ukrainian jig. Soon, Megan was on a chair, above the crowd spinning around. All very fun! (see shots). Before long, everyone...even all the Clegg uncles and aunts, were dancing up a storm.

The evening ended (for most but Lindy and her friends) with the happy couple exiting through a gateway of fire with friends and family holding sparklers in the air. They are now off to St. George then to Bear Lake, then driving to Virginia plus a couple of other event which basically turns out to be a month of honeymoon. We wish them all the best!

Here are a few of the pictures I took--I'm kind of lazy when you have a professional around. Click HERE to see all the pictures.

Between the wedding and reception, Mom, Paula, Gordon and I stopped by the temple to pick up the car and noticed that the house the my great grandmother Olsen lived in is for sale. It has special meaning to Grandmother Clegg as she lived with her grandmother while she went to Utah State as a freshman. It has particular meaning as under the tree in front of the house is where Grandpa proposed to Grandma.

Jenny Lou--loves watermelon! See this short segment--you know she has to be descended from her Great Grandmother Clegg! WATCH IT HERE

Paula has been busy writing for the e-zine SouthernIdahoLiving.com. Some great new articles (she has written MOST of the features!) on a family that homesteaded in Hazelton and an eighty-five year old guy that loves to hang glide!

I don't know how many of you are getting Jamie's 'Adventures in Babysitting' chronicles but she's radically expanding her 'world view?' A hard but awesome experience as she mothers a newborn and an eight year old while cruising on a private yacht in the Mediterranean. I kleptoed a couple of pics from her Facebook to show them here.

We're also anxious to hear how Hayley and Erin are doing at the Redfish Lake Lodge in Stanley, Idaho. Hayley's now in the store and Erin took her old job in housekeeping. I think they're both helping with weddings as well. Redfish and the Sawtooth Mountains are some of the most beautiful places on earth (I've seen a lot of others) so I hope they're getting a chance to get out and see the area. Looking forward to flying the Mooney with Dan and Jill up there sometime over the next few weeks.
