Plane Held Hostage

Sunday night and feeling a little bad that I (and I'm sure others) missed hearing Spencer report his mission.  I trust that it all went well--Frank said he got to hear the report and it was excellent. Spencer also sent news that he's now "brother" Clegg, a teacher at the MTC (see shot).  A great Sunday in all other respects and hope some of you saw that spectacular sunset that we saw here in Orem! I love this weather lately! Not too cool or hot.  Yesterday morning, despite still trying to get back to 100% with my hamstring (which turns out to have been my hip joint), I hiked up into the foothills--an absolutely glorious morning with deep green clear to the snow line on Timp.

So this week has been mostly ok--probably one of the highlights was getting another installment of Jamie's Nanny Narratives.  She's getting some great material for a book...hope she didn't have to sign a confidentiality agreement before taking the job! Anyway, fun to hear what she's doing and see how it's going.

As far as work for me, it's been pretty much bug testing.  It's one of those jobs which isn't really mine--or should I say it's very expensive to have me do it--but there's no one else. Working to get a new release out this next week.  The fun part is that the testing involves live interviews with people over the internet to test the system and this week I've been online with people in India, Turkey, Spain, England, USA, Ukraine, Poland, Thailand and Brazil.  The girl from Thailand was very reserved and quiet but I spoke to her in Thai and she immediately came alive to visit.

I've been a little frustrated at work with all the testing, the slow progress and the onslaught of competition.  So, for relief I was anticipating taking off part of the day Friday.  It was a gorgeous day for flying and I'd been out to the plane last Saturday and it was fueled and ready to go.  When I was out there last week, my pass that opened the gate for the truck didn't work so I used the walk in gate.  Anyway, the leaving work early didn't happen but I still had enough time to get to Provo airport and fly to Soda before dark. I put everything I needed in my backpack and started for the walk-in gate only to find it locked and my entry completely barred.  Everywhere on the entire airport was locked down and plastered with signs.  I even went to the Millionaire terminal and couldn't get through their big glass doors--all signs said only authorized personnel with ID badges.  I was pretty disappointed. Well, more like angry as I had been leaving voice mail all week for the airport manager and he never returned my calls.

As it turns out, Frontier Airlines started daily flights from Provo to Denver a few weeks ago and at that point, the federal government and TSA upped the security requirements.  In order to get to my plane, I have to take an hour long security course, take a test and get a photo ID badge that must be with me at all times while out there.  The good news is that I can take that course tomorrow night (Monday) so hopefully will be good for this week but need to watch the weather.

Needless to say, the airport thing made me grumpy and I had to work hard all weekend to try and feel better about it.  In the mean time, I worked on the garden and lawn (see shot of new garden sprinklers), got the cars washed and waxed, broke out Ben's sewing machine and finally got it working to make a new plane cover, figured out how to program alerts for KSL.com classifieds (like "free hot tub"---I really miss the Gibbs' and their hot tub!), designed a new chimney shroud for the chimney that's falling apart and mowed the lawn and watered the dry spots...plus picked a few zucchini squash. Oh...and organized some of my photos and pulled some off from old CDs.  In going back over the last 10+ years of digital photography, I have a TROVE of shots of little kids that are no longer little.  Take the one of Spencer (attached) for example!  BTW, he just dropped by and visited for a few minutes so I feel much better!

Hoping to be more productive in the coming week and I hope you all are too!
