Peter's Week

Sometimes, I feel like I'm just blathering away on this blog pretty
much by myself.... but hey, you don't have to read it! Thanks to those
of you who do and I get comments so I know some of you will read (even
if you don't write).

So work... "are you in the permameeting?" someone asked. We started
meetings on Monday morning and went straight through to Thursday night
with a couple of night dinner meetings thrown in. We had a couple of
consultants from Australia there to walk us through our core Business
Vision, and then Business Requirements, followed up with a round of
deeper detail. I like to think of it as the outer space view, the
100,000 foot level and the 10,000 foot level talks. It was all good
and though painful and debate oriented at times, I think we came away
knowing the direction we should all be united on. Just need to get to
the 1 foot level which is where real value gets created. Anyway, by
the end of the week - plus a wild week with trying to get some of the
Comcast deliverables done, I was wasted Friday night. But, ready to
stay engaged until the end of the year...or at least until my three
week vacation is over which needs to be done by the end of the year!

So I've thought of writing another blog called the Mooney Chronicles.
It's about the airplane and efforts to get it--and me--flying on a
regular basis. John, the guy that's going to train me, and I went
down to Provo early Wednesday morning for a flight and although it was
42 degrees at my house, the plane cover and wings were coated with
ice. Some of it was just water so we waited and the closer to
sunrise, the colder it got and the water was freezing. We got in and
fired up the plane to get it warmed up and ready and soon an airport
truck came over and asked if our mic was stuck. He had a call from
the tower and the controller said that someone was "throwing a signal"
and it started about the time that our plane had fired up. We worked
at it for a minute and determined that it was our radio and I
conjectured that it might be the Communications panel (an electronics
instrument that switches among all the different radios in the plan).
The buttons between Com 1 and Com 2 were supposed to toggle but they
were stuck solid. Sure enough when I had the avionics guy take it out
and look, it was corroded inside and was stuck in a position that had
the mic, push-to-talk and radio all stuck on. We packed up and tied
down and walked back to the car...anticipating another wallet
transaction before it flies again. Tito, the avionics guy, had a used
one that also included an intercom which I was going to have him put
in anyway. He's a nice guy that had an air taxi service in Ecuador
with a couple of Cessna 206s that he flew but his son was killed in
one so they moved to Utah to be closer to his kids who had come to BYU
and stayed. Anyway, maybe by Tuesday or Wednesday of this week he'll
be finished and we'll look at another go--but the weather isn't
supposed to be that great.

Saturday was sort of laid back. I did yard work trimming the hedge
and cleaning up crab apples. Not sure how a tree that is supposed to
be only flowering can have SO MANY apples. They are rock hard and
like marbles on the sidewalk. I almost feel four times trying to get
them cleaned up! Went for a hike and then did a little shopping. I
now am Product Manager for Move video on iPhone--but I didn't have an
iPhone and the company isn't anxious to pay for it so I went out
Saturday evening and bought one on my own. It's pretty cool! I've
looked at them but never gone through in detail...a very nice piece of
technology. I got an application that you feed in the origination
airport, destination airport and your average cruise and fuel burn and
it gives you trip time over a moving sectional map. From Provo (PVU)
to Soda Springs (U78) is supposed to be 61 minutes. Hoping to try
that soon! It's also got cool weather--right now, Grace is 30 degrees
and Borrego Springs is 84. Flight time there (Borrego) is 3 hours, 16
minutes--about the same time to drive to Grace!

Tonight, I went out to the Pearson's for dinner. Great to catch up
with them and on all their family. They say hello to everyone. The
shot above is of the three kids--Lauren (10), Eva (5) and Max (2).
Robert found out that technically, he doesn't even have to be checked
out to fly the plane so maybe we'll go for a ride!

Have a good week all!
