Mooney Chronicles - So, got another instructor in an effort to speed things along. She seems very good and comfortable...has about 3000 training hours as an instructor and was also a tail gunner in an attack helicopter. Probably about 6'2" and told me she was 200 lbs for the weight and balance calculations. Very nice and I think she'll work out well. We taxied over for fuel ($200+ for a fill up) and then headed for the runway. In the run-up, one of the magnetos was running too rough. I tried what Claus (the mechanic) had told me to do which was throttle up the RPMs and then lean out the fuel to get a hot burn. Last time it worked but three tries this time and it didn't so we called ground control and had them taxi us back to the ramp where we parked and I started making calls for a mechanic...as of Sunday, no luck yet. Oh well, I'm thinking this is a lot like golf, or life. Most of the fun is in the anticipation so I'm looking forward to next time.
My new housemate stopped by for a while on Thursday. Derek Clegg (Kevin & Catherine's son) is going to stay here for a couple of months. He has been home from his mission to Argentina for a little over a year and is working at Costco here in Orem. He's a very nice kid and I'm pleasantly surprised that he's a 'clean freak' (his words). I haven't lived with one of those before so am anxious to try it out!
Tonight, fixed a Thai dinner for my friends the Hulmes. Pad thai and coconut soup. Turned out pretty good. I've fixed them a few meals and now they're asking for repeats so it must be good. Jim is back at Move for now. Work has actually been a lot less hectic than in the past and I've actually had a little time to do strategic thinking and research. A little scary though as I found a paper from Nortel that basically outlines everything that we're planning on doing--and they are doing it!
So, I don't know how many of you follow Brandon's Facebook page but this week he was accepted to Wharton Business School for his MBA this fall! That's pretty prestigious and is a great opportunity. I know he's studied and worked very hard to get in so a big congratulations are in order! Wish them luck. They're headed back to Dallas for a while and then on to Pennsylvania this fall.
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Love,
Peter
