======================
Happy Birthday to Mother/Grandma!! There is a quilt here with a bow on it that has been in the makings since Christmas for you and Dad for your birthday/Father's Day. We love and miss you. Don's birthday was celebrated at Pizza Hut with his family, Shane Christensen, Boston, Elva, Gordon and I. Laughter is the best medicine. Shane was heading for a 100 mile bike ride Sat.
Girls, girls, girls!!!! Amy has the corner on the market for girls. She brought seven up to share with us. We had a fun time playing tour guide for them by showing them potato, corn, hay and grain fields, watching a baby calf try to up for the first time, milking cows in the parlor, having a wiener roast at Massacre Rocks after going through the museum and climbing on rocks, jumping on the trampoline, going down Steadman's slide and... waiting anxiously at home while Amy took one of the girls to the ER for stitches and making pizza and cinnamon rolls It was a fun time sharing our country life with the city.
Raft River is turning tropic lately. With all the rain the grass has grown fast and Gordon mowed the big lawn with the swather!
Webb Basin is in the middle of first crop hay, a slow start for the farm because it's been too wet. Stuart arrived here on the farm at 6 am this morning to get things rolling with hay harvest. He's relieved the stress from working this past week by camping in a remote valley called Daniel near Malad, ID. An old pumice mine and small town with a school were discovered in his wanderings with Andrew, cousin.
Hitting the road bright and early at 7:30 am every morning finds Boston in class learning how to make the roads safer by taking
Driver's Ed. In his down time he swaths and rakes acres and acres of hay. NPR is his friend for the summer along with texts from friends and phone calls from older girls. Watch out Boston.
Learning is also Hayden's past time for the summer at BYU-I. Returning from Colorado on a landscaping adventure he is thrown into making money from scratch in his entrepreneur business class.
He succeeded with classmates by making T-shirts and selling them via face book for an upcoming event being held on campus. They grossed over $400 and netted about $100. The money will go to micro-credit for 3rd world countries.
Country living is Kendrick and Megan's lifestyle right now while going to school and working. They recently killed their fryer chickens. Megan had never tried this before but bravely donned her raincoat and rubber boots and worked alongside Kendrick. Their little baby girl is due any day. The doctor says so. But so does Megan. Kendrick being the man he is is building the crib for their little one. When asked where he got the pattern he says, "Out of my head!" His associates say he thinks in 3-D. Pretty good imaging in that little noggin of his.
Larsen is on the fly after graduation. He has taken to Cortez, CO for the summer custom cutting for Peaks to Plains. Hayden is jealous as this is his old stomping grounds and Larsen seems to be having as much fun going to barbecues, swimming and rodeos with his fellow workers. He has a hard job being boss over a crew of girls.
Real estate has taken on a new meaning for Anna and Steve as they are buying a little home in Broadmoore area in SLC. Because the condo they live in doesn't allow children they are having to move, preferably before the baby is born. Being the man Steve is, he is taking chemistry and physiology this summer and prepping to take the MCAP in August. Anna has left her mark on hundreds of junior high children with her teaching skills these past 5 years. Although she renewed her teaching license, Granite school district will have to be satisfied with using the curriculum she has recently helped write while Anna puts her teaching career towards raising a family.
Germany will hold Jessica and Clayton no more as the last of their belongings are being shipped out to Virginia tomorrow. A small village of winding cobblestone streets, white stucco buildings with red tile roofs and hills laden with pine trees, meadows and windmills mark the year long honeymoon they feel they've been on. Jessica's kindergarten students gradually said their goodbyes as mothers and fathers took them away for the summer. She's been a good teacher and is missed by the military school district in Baumholder. Clayton, being the man he is, is beginning his training as captain in the Army at Virginia. Another step up in his career. Jessica calls him Captain Hook. They will be arriving in the Utah Valley July 13-25 before settling in Virginia. In the meantime they will be touring England and taking a Mediterranean cruise.
Our past has a way of catching up with us and begging for reconciliation. Gordon is out on the porch with his mother sorting boxes of clothes, books, records, etc. as her home in Bluffdale was sold and emptied this past weekend. Letting go of the past, especially if it is good, is hard.
And me? the author of this little entry...I'm happy...and sad...happy that things are going so well...sad that good things end and we must move on. We have many happy memories at the home in Grace but things have changed. Calvin and Elva's home hold many good memories and now they have come to an end. Anna and Steve's little home has been so perfect for them. Jessica and Clayton's home is a wonderful place to live and then they are moving on. I hear rumor Peter is renting his house out. We have many satisfying memories with him and his home. I trust things will be as happy and memorable in these new places everyone chooses to go. I love you very much and am thankful for these opportunities to associate with all of you. Love Paula
