I think that the weekend saw most everyone in touch with at least some other family members so all this isn't new news but here's a rundown of activities since the last "mid-week" update.
Friday... I played hooky from work. We were originally going to fly to Borrego Springs in California and get all my hours done! But, the weather wasn't that great and while it would have been possible, it would have been quite bumpy. I told my instructor that I didn't want to do it unless it was going to be fun. So, early Friday, we took off an flew over to Mt. Pleasant via Nephi (see shot of Mt. Nebo on the way down). It was bumpy going though the pass but really a very nice flight and we landed at the little airport, taxied back and took off again flying down over the Manti Temple then back to Provo over Yuba Reservoir.
I met Robert Pearson at the house at 9:30 and we pumped up our bike tires. Originally we were going to ride the Alpine Loop on Saturday but with a storm coming in--and the fact that I was off work--we did it on Friday. I've been riding two to three times a week but it still was tough for me (he breezed right along). The steepest part of the climb is from the highway in Provo Canyon to Sundance. Coming down the other side, winds hit with a cold front but we made it home fine...total time 4.5 hours. It was great to ride with him and look forward to more cycling through the summer.
Then to the Littlefields to celebrate Joe's graduation from Mountain View High School. He and and his friend Julia got mentioned in the program but I'll let him explain that. He's busy working this summer at a couple of jobs and is looking forward to heading to UVU this fall where think he's going to be joined by Hayley.
Saturday morning up and headed to Idaho. I stopped at Frank & Melissa's for a cookie and see them get ready to start Andrew on potty training. I talked to Frank on the way home and asked how it went. He said, "Andrew six--us zero!"
When I got to Idaho, the Webbs were there so we visited with them. Ben and several kids dropped in as they were picking up a couple of calves to take to Bear Lake to graze down some pastures for the summer. They were excited as Janet is taking everyone except Megan and Wyatt and going to Disneyland. Larsen (another graduate) was leaving Sunday to go to Cortez, New Mexico to swath hay for the summer and was heading out by himself. As Frank said, he's off on his hobbit journey, leaving the shire. We all went up to Don & Greshen's for a fantastic dinner of steak, chicken, dutch oven potatoes, salad and homemade rhubarb and apple pies. I ate so much I was in major pain! Afterwords, several of us walked over to the airport and watched a beautiful sunset!
Over the weekend we made several trips to the cemetery, putting out flowers and visiting the graves of our friends and relatives who have passed on. You can see a couple of pictures attached. Both Neil Hubbard and Clinton Peck have new Harley trikes and Dad was very interested in taking a look at them. We attended the Veterans flag raising ceremony which was short but very nice. Many of the veterans have passed on.
The rest of the day was packed! The Hunters and the Soda Cleggs came and Dan, Jill, Erin, David, Jordan and Tyler had arrived Sunday night. Activities included rounding up cows and calves and moving them to the canyon; target shooting at car windows; checking fish; feeding birds; planting garden; swinging, eating and ditching. I really wish I'd had my camera for the ditching activity! Around the rocky, green willow lined ditch banks...the old yellow caterpillar emerges with the steady throaty popping of the engine, exhaling smoke through the chimney exhaust pipe--it's cleated tracks pawing their way forward. Kent' on the squat Cat thrown with diesel tanks for arm rests is pulling levers left and right to navigate the bend. Behind him is the V-shaped ditcher peeling up mud and rocks and depositing them on each side. Surfing the ditcher to add weight to the uphill side is a cadres of boys clad in brightly colored T-shirts all holding a rope so they can lean way out. Dan's sitting on the front; David, Jordan, Grant, Tyler and then Don on the back. Grandpa Clegg would have been proud! (How's that for a word picture?)
I had a nice trip back with Paisley and Alyssa to keep me company. Alyssa has been taking all kinds of pictures with her digital camera of anything that interests her and on the way home, we worked on ways to take shots as it got dark from a moving car. A quick stop for dinner at Bajio and home by 10.
