Family and All,
Gordon just got a call from Winmill Construction telling him they had located the waterline down in the corrals. Renovating alleyways, corrals, and pouring yards and yards of cement has been on Gordon's agenda for his employees and construction crew. Trying to fit 2,000 cows in the basin north of the freeway requires a keen eye for manger space and commodity storage. Rumor that dozens of silage bags and a new large commodity shed might go up at the bottom of the hill below our houses sent some of us wives into a hen clucking fit. In the old days the corral and barn were in the front yard Gordon argues. But back then it was only 20 to 100 head. Not two thousand! Gordon got a new Dodge Ram truck. It had a bull pusher on the front which he promptly took off because he was embarrassed at how conspicuous it looked. Or maybe it was because his brothers teased him (I think they were jealous and wanted one). We took it to Moscow to Kendrick's baby blessing.
Paula (or me) just returned from taking the sister missionaries around the Raft River Valley. But not after they watered all the hanging baskets on the our porch and washed the outside windows on the house while I fixed lunch. We then traveled down the valley where I sat through a discussion (and about fell asleep) until Tashina Crane came to trade me off. Being home has forced me to look at the cleaning and business needing my attention. I'd rather eat popcorn or do something else besides face reality. But work I must.
Stuart pulled a muscle in his back while lifting rocks on the farm. This has caused him to walk like a penguin and suffer from the strain. He's been to a chiropractor a couple of times but says some exercises Gordon gave him seems to help. He has tickets to fly back to Virginia to see Jessica and Clayton before they fly back here for the Pumpkin Party (yahoo!!!!). His wish list is getting longer of things to see (Smithsonian, the capital, etc.).
Anna and Steve will be blessing little Francie Jane this weekend in the Avenues Ward. We invite all of you to come and have a lunch afterwards if you'd like. I'll let you know on the time. They are presently in California with the Greene family vacationing on the beach. Little Francie has traveled well and they are enjoying their time with his family. Steve will be starting his new job next week at Numira in the research park near U of U. They are enjoying their little home as it's near three of his sisters.
Jessica and Clayton quickly passed through this area on their way from Germany to Virginia. They had a fun cruise in the Mediterranean and a few days in London before flying to the United States. They rented a car and drove up to Moscow to spend time with Kendrick and Megan and see baby Jennie. They've flown back to Virginia where Clayton is now in Captain's school and Jessica is trying out being a stay at home wife. She drove to the Washington DC temple the other day encountering flooding and debris across the roads from a storm only to find the temple without power. She was able to do a session via generator but the temple closed down right after for the rest of the week due to weather (tornado warnings were out). They are just a few minutes from Mount Vernon, DC and Washington Monument. An area rich in history. Tuesday night they are attending the US Army Band at the Washington Monument.
Kendrick and Megan and little Jennie are doing well. Jennie was blessed last week by her father (Kendrick). Already our family is to the point that not everyone can come to these momentous events. Gordon, Boston, Anna, Steve and little Francie and I traveled up to Moscow to attend her blessing. Aunt Angela (Megan's aunt from Inkom) made her blessing dress. Kiana made a classy rag quilt she sent up with us. It was beautiful and everyone ooohed and aaahed over her color schemes and patch work. Thank you Kiana! The Eichner's were very gracious and entertained a large crowd of family and friends after the blessing. On our way home we stopped in the wheat field to watch Kendrick start grain harvest. The rolling hills of golden wheat are amazing with no irrigational obstructions like pivot tracts or risers to watch out for. We stopped at a couple of fields to pick a handful of lentils and garbanzo beans. Kendrick will be starting school Monday and is pursing his degree in Plant Science.
Hayden completed his first year at BYU-I in July. He's majoring in Landscape Architecture. Right now he is in Cortez Colorado with Larsen working with Clark's (Peaks to Plains) custom cutting, baling and stacking hay and some straw. While talking to Larsen on the phone yesterday, I heard Vaughn Clark say over the CB, "Those Webb boys are Good!" (ya, that's what we like to hear). He should be done in a couple of weeks and heading back up to this area.
Larsen took off right after graduation to prove he can be on his own. And be on his own he is. He drove to Cortez with a friend from his school district. They've spent the summer doing custom cutting for the Clark's along with attending barbeques, swimming in the pond, going to Durango, going to rodeos, teaching SS lessons, talking in church with Hayden in Cortez and making several new and close friends. He also spent 2-3 weeks in Driggs, ID area where he did work for Clark's company. He too will be back in a couple of weeks. He will be starting school in BYU-I the first week of September. I love these boys and miss them but am so thankful for video chat and our cell phones.
Boston is getting a heavy dose of football. He's been walking around a little stiff today. Up at 6:30 am for practice (actually it's me getting him up the first morning) and driving the 30 miles with cousin Calum will see what he's made of. Right now he's out throwing passes with Calum. He hiked Borah a couple of weeks ago and proved he could go to the top. It was "Scarey" he admitted. He's wondering how living with two middle aged parents and a grandma out in the middle of nowhere is going to affect his social life. But texting and facebook are filling in the gaps nicely I think. School starts in a couple of weeks along with the practices he has to go to everyday. He's well known for putting his arm around me and saying, "Mom, your such a good mom!"
Grandma Webb is doing as well as her 88 years will let her. She was struggling for air this morning and her feet swell. I hold my breath alot when I'm around her. I hope I can make things comfortable for her but often wish I knew what more I can do for her. She's still washing dishes and helping fold clothes when she feels she can.
We've enjoyed visits this last month from Micheal and Virginia, Paisley, Allysa and Andrew.
Greshen, Abby, Macey and Donna and Dee also stopped on their way back from Boise and we enjoyed a good visit. Thank you so much.
I'm looking forward to the annual "Pumpkin Party", October 14-16 (over UHEA). You are all invited to come and have fun. Invitations will be coming out shortly for everyone. We have some fun, fun memories from past years.
We hope you are doing well. It's fun to hear of all the camping/get-to-gethers everyone is having. I wish I were part of everyone of them. I love you and miss you all. Love Paula
