So the storm took us by surprise and left "all things revealed". Lawn mowers, 4-wheelers, gas cans, chicken feeders, and things just stuffed in the corner we'd get to later. Funny how we are secure in our places of belonging until someone or something comes along and displaces our covering leaving us to see ourselves as we are. So went the storm of last week.
The chicken coop for example which has been a focus of much debate in our household has been the source of much frustration and discussion trying to decide where, how and who is going to make the needed changes to make it permanent. No one can decide, even though 2 batches of chickens have come and gone through it. But in one great swoop of wind, over it went onto governement property leaving all things revealed: the feeder sitting erect and empty, the old dishwasher converted laying nest and small piles of chicken refuse. A latent argument that never got resolved. But kudos to Kendrick and Larsen that built it so well that it can be picked back up and reinstated properly now. All things revealed both good and bad.
This last storm reminded me of the magnificent lightening storms that umbrellaed us as children, huddled in the dark of the powerless house Dad and Mom are living in now. We gathered blankets, pillows and each other in the center of the kitchen floor to brave the storm and darkness of the cavernous room around us. Suddenly, without warning the bright lights came on leaving us feeling small and foolish staring at each other with our horde of security around us. All things revealed.
