Cami is now living at the house and great to have her there! She's sporting a beautiful new engagement ring and I got to visit with her and her fiancee Taylor for a while on Tuesday. Exciting time for both of them. Cami's working hard at Vivint as a scheduler and support person. Vivint is the old Apex Alarm company under new management and new funding from Goldman Sachs. Just like old times when Anna was working at Apex, running the office, scheduling and working with customers and sales people!
So a productive week, home Thursday night to mow the lawn and water the garden before taking off early morning for the Ukraine where I am now. Flew through Dulles and called Jessica to talk. They had just finished with the packers and are getting ready to start their drive to El Paso on Tuesday. Flew on through the short night to Munich and then caught a flight to Lviv, Ukraine. It was a beautiful flight and we flew right over Krakov, Poland where Frank served and where Dad, Mom and I visited when we picked him up. I've taken a bunch of pictures and they're located here:
Lviv has been awesome so far! It is a beautiful old city with lots of history. There are several beautiful cathedrals which we visited Saturday and Sunday. The weather has been beautiful and warm and Saturday was the day for weddings! All over the city there were young couples and marriage parties. Coming out of the Dominican Church were a young couple and they stopped and released a two white doves as part of the ritual. Sunday, we went the LDS church which is a beautiful building on a hill. It has tall glass windows and is surrounded by trees which gave you the feeling you were in a forest.
We had walked around the city with it's cobble stone streets, plazas and street cars and thought it was cool but later got a guide and found out so much more. Lots of history here with the city being founded in 1256 AD but being ruled by Poles, Austrians, Germans, Ukrainians and Russians--all back and forth. Most people speak Ukrainian but there's Russian as well. Several statues to poets and writers who are revered as heroes. Several forms of Christianity here with Domincan, Catholic, Armenian, Benedictine and others as well as Jewish. Fun to walk around the churches on Sunday. I've been to a lot of cathedrals through Europe but never have seen the level of active worship in churches as here. The Catholic church was having Mass yesterday when we entered and there was a beautiful choir with a massive organ playing and it was full of people worshiping and singing.
There are some very interesting restaurants here as well as a chocolate factory. Last night, we ate at a restaurant that was underground. It was built like a cave or fallout shelter and was in the theme of Ukrainian resistance fighting off the Russians. You knocked on the door and this old military guy opened the door and asked for a password. You had to give the password then were led way underground where they served meals in old tin pans and the menu was written on old newspaper that was like a revolution flyer. See the shots with the guns and uniforms.
Well, need to get ready for work which is why we're here. Will be meeting with our development team and working through Thursday and then flying back on Friday.
Good week to all!
