Week of August 14th

To see what to write each week, I usually go to my iPhone and look at pictures but the only one I took this week was of all of the bottles of hard liquor that the people were drinking at our work sales summit.  Lots of bottles and not sure how productive the three days were but the next few weeks should tell.  One night we had dinner at the High West distillery in Park City and it was beautiful up there.  The next night a BBQ at the office--all in all good to see everyone and hoping for the best on meeting the sales quota for the quarter ending in October.

A highlight of the week was going to dinner with Spencer, Megan and Jessica.  We hit Sensuous Sandwich in Provo (a divy place I frequented while in college and working at Nuskin) and enjoyed conversation over a hot Spicy Enticer (one of their specialty sandwiches).  Afterwards, Spencer and I went through his budget for school and based on his work plan, budget and scholarship he can go to school for 12 more years before he runs out of savings--awesome planning!   Also went through Melissa's with her and she's done a fabulous job of planning--right down to making sure that her job is close to where she lives so she doesn't have to have a car.  Very proud of both of them and they way they're carefully planning and budgeting.  For anyone that wants to run your own college budget, try this calculator out from bankrate.com.  It takes expenses by the month, semester or year as well as gives you a monthly cash flow breakdown.

Wednesday, I dropped Jessica at the airport as she flew back to El Paso to work on her next big adventure...whatever that turns out to be! She had leads on teaching jobs at elementary school and might be teaching Seminary.  Looking forward to hear what she ends up doing.

Saturday, I went on a bike ride and afterwards it was the first time this week my sciatica hasn't bothered me.  Good stretching, working it out plus a dose of naproxen helped.  I looked up what psychosomatic problem results in sciatica and it said, "feel you're in the wrong place (job, city, relationship, etc.) and mental anxieties regarding creative abilities."  Could be right on all counts.  (Email me if you want to know what is says is at the root of sinus!) Anyway, just a great day on Saturday.  Went with the Hulmes that evening to Wallsburg to another family's retreat and had an enjoyable evening watching the clouds, eating, riding 4-wheelers and playing games and smelling sagebrush. It was the family of Kate Lewis (James' Hulme's girlfriend) who went to Zion's with us a few weeks ago.  She just got back from guiding mountain treks in Switzerland.  She said her real goal is going to Costa Rica to live for a while and she was so excited about the house plans I found for the property there.  Anyone want to go in partners? (http://techmarketingink.com/photos/costa_rica/).

Sunday back to visit my home ward for the first time in many many months.  Great to connect again with people in the neighborhood.  After church a couple of younger Roney boys came over to pass of merit badges then Braedon Roney (the oldest) dropped in. He's been home from his mission for a couple of months and first time I've seen him. He was in San Diego but spent 14 months in Calexico in the desert.  Such a great young man and fun to see him and his brothers--I was their home teacher when they were just tiny kids.

So, no bites at all on the house.  Seriously contemplating maybe doing an apartment in the basement so that I can get the house paid off by the time I'm ready to retire (like 75?). Have been going through all kinds of options in my mind over the weekend from fire sale (with the market volatility, I don't think prices are going to go up soon) to having a guy I work with and his friends move in.  Would really like to get in a position to not have to work 40-60 hours a week and focus on things that are more meaningful and have greater interest.  But, good for now.

Looking forward to getting the plane back this week with new carpet.  With that, I think we'll put it up for sale--not that I want to sell it but there are cheaper ways to fly.  In the mean time, I need to fly it a lot through September before it goes in for annual.

Also, have been watching TED talks...I discovered them a few months ago but have been watching them more and more.  They are 2-20 minute talks on all kinds of things that are TED (technology, entertainment and design)--ideas worth spreading.  Particularly this one on how guys built a bird robot and then flew it around the conference hall...kind of cool!

Enjoy your week!
Love,
Peter
