Peter's Week

It's been a little over a week since I wrote but wanted to post a few pics and catch you up.  First, summer slammed shut last week as I started a new job.  It felt a little like being a kid again and going to school or college at the end of the summer.  Two months of being outside, physical labor, spending time with family and having a good time with no media or technology and then back to full days inside behind the computer.  The time off was a good break!!!

The job will be good I think.  Good guys, focused market and enabling companies to make better hires with less money through video interviews (hirevue.com)  I think there's quite a bit that I can do to help so looking forward to digging in.  The office is in Draper but it's only 30 minutes of commute and grateful to have a nice car to commute in.  I just signed up for Audible.com so should have some books to pass around in a month or so.  The first one I ordered was Mountains Beyond Mountains.

So kind of excited...my neighbor has had this little sailboat in his back yard for years and never used it and after Don and I's adventure on Bear Lake, I decided to take him up on an offer to get rid of it so have been pulling together parts and working on the trailer.  As of tonight, I'm ready to sail!!! It's very small but was designed by some aircraft engineers to be fast and easy to sail so hopefully in the next couple of days I'll get it on the water!

Saturday was a big day as we went to Elva's funeral.  Gordon did a great job of talking and Paula accompanied a couple who sang Elva and Calvin's favorite songs from when they were courting.  Quite impressive to see all of the Webb descendants and to see that all of the children are now grandparents as well.  I was thinking of the cycle of life as Elva passed on after a long and fulfilling life and then here are these two little darling baby girls just starting their journey.  Great to see all the Webb kids and family and such a nice funeral!

After the funeral, I rode with Don and Greshen to Logan where I picked up the plane to fly it back to Provo.  I got to the end of the runway and did the run up but couldn't get a confirmation on radio check that my radio was working.  I had the little portable so switched to that and still nothing.  Changed channels a couple of times and verified that I could receive the weather advisories so decided to take off and if worst came to worst, land at Springville where there is not tower.  Once in the air however, I got Morgan traffic and they responded that my radio was working fine. I guess there was just no one in Logan listening to the radio!  It was a little hairy getting out of Logan.  A little nervous about flying a plane that has just had all the inspection panels off but that was ok.  Kim (the mechanic) lubricated all the controls and it really made a difference in how easy they handled.  With the cold front coming in, there was some turbulence and it was bumpy but once up at altitude, it wasn't bad at all.  I came out of Provo canyon at 9000 feet and got clearance right to the runway but I had to slow down and lose altitude so was circling over BYU when I noticed that there was a BYU football game in progress--I was circling right over the stadium!  A little crosswind on landing but got down ok and an absolutely beautiful evening.

Sunday, pretty much all day at the clerk's office.  We do have a really good picture directory though and I'm thinking it will be a good help to the Bishop and to the students that are getting to know each other. The BYU ward is really enjoyable.  I'm just amazed at how sharp these kids are--and handsome and beautiful.  I'm not sure whether it's just the apartment area or kids in general these days but as I cropped and put all the pictures in the directory, I could have been working on a model magazine!

I was there until about midnight last night and while standing over the hole punch at kind of an angle, my lower back popped and I dropped right to the floor in pain! (I need to do some more core exercises or something!).  Anyway, I came home, took some Ibuprofin and went to bed, then got up and stretched this morning and tonight it's feeling much better.  Didn't do much all day except putter around the house and work on the boat.  I guess that's actually some kind of holiday activity!

So glad the Frank, Melissa and family could enjoy the place in Idaho over the weekend.  They called last night to say what a good time they had.  Just so you all know, anyone is welcome to use it.  You just need to vote on the paint samples that are on the walls so I'll know what color of paint to put up! I miss Dad and Mom but hope to get up there this next weekend as it's regional conference here.

Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful week!

Love,
Peter
