A full week of work...can't remember more than that so I guess nothing dramatic. Making good progress with the projects that I have going and that has been nice to feel a sense of accomplishment. Getting to know the people that I work with a little better and am enjoying the work environment that we seem to have. This last couple of weeks they have knocked the wall out of one end of our office into the other side of the building and we are going to 3x the size of our office. I get a "war" room where I can map out all of our product initiatives, time lines, partners, competitors, etc. I've done several and it's a good exercise that helps everyone in the company really understand the industry and the market.
Thursday I asked my boss if I could work from home and he said, "Sure!" He just didn't know which home so I drove to Idaho from work on Thursday and got there after 10. I met Don and Kent heading out as I came in. Kent had had a "Clegg" day in Grays Lake with a broken cattle trailer, two tires blown at different places, some missing calves and they were just going out north of Soda to get his load of calves in so he could take them to market early Friday morning. It went well in the end but I don't know how he survives on such little sleep!
Friday, I worked all day from my Idaho office. Sometimes, I think that doing computer work up there sort of defiles the place....but it was nice to be done and then go immediately outside and gather up hoses and make sure everything was ready for winter. We got Mom an new computer desk and spent most of the night putting it togther---27 pages of instructions! But it looks nice and I was able to take the old one to my house and set up a bigger work area. Mom had made a delicious apple pie and she fed me both nights! They are doing well enough and I thought how grateful I was that as it turned off cold (which it did especially on Saturday) that they were in that comfortable little home--no bundling up to walk from room to room in the house. Saturday, I worked on a little wall to block off their breezeway between the garage and the house in the winter but ran out of vinyl siding so need to get some more. It's a temporary fix but hopefully will work ok. Speaking of the garage, you should see the new garage door Mom got! I should have taken a picture. It's white with windows on top and fully automatic! It's such a shock to drive up and not see the two tone door with a hole in it.
I drove straight home to Orem on Saturday night and hit some of the hardest rain down pour I've ever been in driving through Sardine. But I was listening to the book "Stones into Schools" which makes any whining I would want to do seem utterly ungrateful. It's the second book by a guy that is building schools in the remote parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan for school children and especially girls. In this one, he describes the carnage of the 2005 earthquake there that killed and estimated 85,000 people. Anyway, three hours of listening got me more than half way through the book....if anyone wants it, I have it on iPod.
Well... looking forward to another week as I hope all of you are! I've been watching some of what are considered 50 Greatest Speeches. Steve Jobs says every day for 33 years, he looks in the mirror and asks, "If I were going to die tomorrow, would I do today what I'm planning?" If the answer is no everyday for a couple of weeks, it's time for a change! That's the thought for this week.
A couple of pics attached...the new desk and Mom's new coat from Ginny.
Love,
Peter
