Just came from a second birthday dinner (kind of like 'second breakfast' in the Shire in Lord of the Rings) with the Hunters and the BYU college freshmen. Good to see everyone and they are having a great time. Good to know that they all say they miss their families so that's a "good job" for you parents! We had enchilada casserole and a dessert of strawberry pie, brownies and ice cream! Last night, Anna and Steve came down after a hike and we had a late night of Mexican food so this week--diet?
Sent some pictures but wanted to document the fantastic trip to the Wind Rivers with Don and family. Drove up to Pinedale via Huntsville and over Monte Cristo. That was a beautiful drive but also enjoyed the spacious Wyoming landscape. When I got there, I knew that Don, Greshen and Greshen's parents were in a campground but didn't know the camp so just thought I would drive around. I stopped at the rest room and was just coming out of the men's and here was Greshen coming out of the women's! They had built a fire down on the lake and we sat around the fire and made banana boats (wrapped in tin foil and stuffed with chocolate and marsh mellows and then cooked in the fire). Up came a full moon and it was beautiful. Me and Grant slept in the tent and the rest in the hotel...I mean trailer...Dee and Donna have a great rig! Next day, after a breakfast of raspberry pancakes (from wild raspberries they picked the day before), we rented canoes and the drove to the Green River Lakes entrance to the wilderness area and launched the canoes. I hiked around the first lake because I was concerned they were too full and on the way saw a moose. We picnicked on the east shore and then pulled the canoes up the river to the second lake. The area is just fantastically beautiful!!! I think the Winds are magical and it's like entering Rivendell. Anyway, see the pics to get an idea of the jutting granite peaks, clear green water and the trees. http://techmarketingink.com/photos/090905_windrivers/
We then paddled down the river and back across the other lake. About two thirds of the way across, I turned around and just happened to see little Macie lean too far over the edge and go head first into the lake, face down. Her feet were floating back behind her as Don grabbed one leg and after a second, hoisted her up and back into the boat. She blinked the water out of her eyes and said, "I got wet!" without even crying. It was COLD water so then we set off on a major strokeathon to get to shore and she was shivering pretty good by the time we touched ground. Anyway, a wonderful time and grateful that they invited me along.
Sunday, I drove from there to Grace taking the Freedom to Soda road through Grays Lake and Henry. All those times as a kid driving that road in old trucks with leg straining clutches, holes in the floorboard and thinking, "I wish I could drive these roads really fast in a nice car....." Well, wishes do come true. It was a very nice (and fast drive). Monday, I had the joy of cleaning the garage in the middle house. I say joy because Jill helped me and it really felt good to be able to actually accomplish something that we started out to do. The only thing still in there when I left was Grandma Great's vanity which I think is supposed to go to Paula but that may be up for grabs (see the picture attached of the vanity and desk--both should be taken soon to keep them in good shape).
Back to 4 days of work which seemed like 8 but nothing new there. Yesterday a wonderful bike ride up to South Fork (while the rest of the biking world was focused on Lotoja--the 210 Logan to Jackson race)... but South Fork ride was awesome and good enough for me this year!
Have a great week!
Love,
Peter
