Ben Cleggers

Hey y'all! It's Megan reporting here for the Benny clan.  I'm reminded to pass on an apology for the absence of reports the past few months- Maybe I should catch you up? As for right now Wyatt is "actively involved" in marching band, maybe a little too much for my taste...  Just kiddin- they're a pretty talented group of kids. This weekend they are heading out to St. George and Las Vegas for a big competition of some sort. As for me, an awesome tennis season just ended; we took 1st in region and 3rd in state.  Lindy is taking singing lessons... and the rest of em' are currently sliding down the stairs on mattresses :)

Hmmmm.

As i sit here trying to think of something interesting to write, I see dad hobbling into the living room to plop down on the couch and prop his swollen leg up on a pillow. Perhaps i could elaborate on that a little? :)

On Thursday, to make a long story shorter, it ended up me and dad on the canal road up above our house.  I was on my mom's bike (pedals and all... whoa...) while he was cruisin around on his 600.  Around six-thirty we agreed to head home for mutual.  When he wasn't there when i got home, i called him. Panting and sounding very out-of-breath, he reported that he had crashed into a 4-foot ditch that he "didn't see"... but assured me that he didn't need help and simply told me to head to mutual. So, tow rope in hand, i drove up to haul him home.  We were quite a sight i'm sure as we plugged down the road- Everything went smoothly at first.  About 1/4 mile away from our house, though, the kill switch started to spark or he was simply fiddling around with something- either way, he reached over with one hand to the other side, putting the handlebars off-balance. The hook that attached the bike to the rope slid from the middle to one side,  turning the front wheel violently and throwing them both to the ground. Trying to catch the fall, dad put his leg out and ended up pulling something (he guesses...) in his knee. Watching all this from my rear-view, i slammed on the brakes and quickly ran to make sure he wasn't bleeding to death (which he wasn't) then got the car and tattered 600 out of the road. Without knowing at the time, a lady in our ward that saw it happen called 911. Dad cringed and limped to the car, then asked to go home so he could "walk it off" in a very manly way (of course).  Once the cripple was dropped off to heal himself, i headed up to mutual once again with Lindy. We turned the corner to pass the place where the little mishap had happened, and found that about 8 ambulances and a few police cars were blocking our way.  I pulled over and was asked repeatedly where my dad was and whether he had been drinking alcohol or not. (apparently that is why a person usually leaves an accident scene) A few of the dispatchers were in our ward and got a kick out of that. I was ordered to bring him back with his drivers license, etc. I ended up dropping him off (as ordered by my dad) and finally getting to the ever-important mutual activity. Woot.

Everything turned out all right, no fees for the ambulances or anything. Dad has been limping around, and even got to ride in a rented wheelchair all day when we visited Hogle Zoo on Friday. Hopefully his "walking it off" technique will do the trick.

As for Mom, she wants to put the 600 on the road with a "free" sign attached to it. Not that it is worth anything more...

Man, that turned out to be a lot longer than i meant it to be, hopefully it all made sense ;)

Have a good day everyone! We'll try to be more diligent in our updates....

Love you all!

The Bens
